DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

 

Read the "Declaration of Independence" in the "American Spirit" p. 141-144 (or on a different page in other editions), including the "Abortive Slave Trade Indictment" and answer the following questions: 

a. What was the purpose of the Declaration?

b. What did the phrase "all men are created equal" mean in 1776?

c. Provide a quotation that validates the Revolution.

d. How might this quotation be used by some "terrorist groups" today?

e. Who is "He" and did "He" do all these things alone?

f. Cite Four complaints which you believe fully justified the end of allegiance to Great Britain and explain your rationale.

g. Select one "signer of the Declaration", other than Hancock, Washington, Jefferson, Adams, provide a brief biographical sketch of this person who pledged his life, fortune and sacred honor".   http://www.colonialhall.com/biodoi.asp

h. On page 144 (OR OTHER PAGE IN A DIFFERENT EDITION), read "The Abortive Slave Trade Indictment” and assess "How might its inclusion have changed the subsequent course of our history?--Be thoughtful and speculative.
