Project Proposal
U.S. Imperialism and African
American History
1. General Overview of the Proposed
Project:
Create a website which my students can go
to access important historical information for each of my 5 classes.
This will be a website in which all students in my school will be
able to use as a resource for any of their history based classes.
Included will be specific web
addresses to the best historical websites and an area specifically
set aside for homework due in my classes.
2. Clear Purpose and Objective:
Students will be able to access vital
information in a easy way in which they will have at their
fingertips accurate historical information and primary documents for
each unit of study.
3. Stakeholders: grade level, who will
benefit, who will participate in this project.
10th-12th grade Social Studies
students will benefit most, however this will be site all students
in our school can use.
4. U.S. History Content Area
All of United States History (AP US
history), Focusing on African American Studies, Civics and Economics
5. Outline Describing Content
See New York Core Curriculum Guide for 11th
and 12th grade
6. Software to be used, internet
materials, contacts, etc.
Microsoft Office PowerPoint,
A variety of web addresses (I will be using
the TAH website as an example)
7. Level of Student Involvement
Students will be encouraged to visit the
website each night as they study topics that can be made more clear
via use of my website
8. Evaluation process (include students
when possible)
9. Timeline: how you envision the
project being carried out between start up and conclusion
I will conclude this project by the end of
March 2008.

My project focused around my
desire to become more computer savvy while providing my students
with a tool to help them learn. My goal for this project was to
create a personal web page for myself and on it include a list of
websites that could be used by the students in my classes. I found
that there was a need to be as efficient as possible when going to
the computer lab. There is only so much time and setting up
computers and copying long website addresses was time consuming and
ended with students unfinished and a lesson incomplete. The goal of
creating a website in which students could get on from our local
server and then click on links was created in the hopes of making
our time in the computer lab more efficient.
Creating a website was not an easy
task for me as I was not proficient in the skills necessary to make
a website. However through training from our computer teacher as
well as a student who knew more about it than I; I was able to put
together a website that gave a description of all of my classes.
Also I included a homework page which became an unexpected positive
out this project, along with the links page. I learned new skills
on the computer that I previously did not have while creating a
useful tool for my students.
When using this site I found that
when taking my students to the computer lab, we were much more on
the “same page”. We did not waste time as we did before. Before
each lesson I would prepare a lesson worksheet that each student
would follow. On the top were the directions that led them to my
page and the link to click on. This process saved us 5 to 10 minutes
each class, which is so valuable when there is limited time. I
found that students were pleased with the process by being able to
avoid the frustrations of typing in the incorrect address and
getting a late start. The students were very receptive to the
change and commented on how much easier it was to get to work and
not mess around.
The hardest part of this project
was putting together the website and setting up the links. Though
this may seem like a small change I found that the students
benefited from this change. It showed me that a small change
sometimes can make a big difference.
