Project Reflection 07-08
My original goal with
this project was to save a little piece of my families history, by
collecting information from my grandmother on what it was like being
a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII. Her information was so
interesting to me and the eight students who participated in the
project that they wanted to find more ladies to interview. We
contacted the local newspaper, they ran a wonderful article on us
and the phone calls from women who worked in the local factories
started to roll in. After we collected eight oral histories we
needed to come up with a movie theme. It was decided that we would
research the topic and find out as much information as possible to
create a monologue to go with the oral histories. When that was
complete we decided to add photos and music to the movie. We
discovered that there was some question as to whom “Rosie the
Riveter” really was and that there was a song written about her. We
would use the song as a guideline to try and answer the question and
the photos to depict her to the best of our ability. All of the
information was downloaded into I-movie and edited into the final
project.
Looking back on the
project the only difficulty we ran into was having enough free
memory on the computer. I had to borrow a Mac lab-top from a
colleague and there was enough memory to burn one copy of the movie.
Talk about being scared. Wow. I again have to give a great deal of
credit to the eight students who worked on this project on their own
time after school hours. I also need to recognize the local
newspaper for helping us out with a wonderful article.
