Project
Summary
Cattaraugus-Little Valley
Classroom
Technology
1. General Overview of the Proposed Project (2) The
Senior level course has been enhanced with the introduction of
Senteo clickers and power point presentations. To allow full use of
the computer technology an Airliner would increase the movement of
instruction by allowing the teacher free movement within the
classroom. The Airliner would allow for highlighting of key terms,
accessibility during instruction, and immediate feedback for
students.
2. Clear Purpose and Objective: The purpose of the
project to increase technology within the classroom and enhance
current software being used. The use of the Airliner would great
assist in daily classroom activities.
3. Stakeholders: grade level, who will benefit, who will
participate in this project. 12th grade seniors
during Government 12 classroom studies.
4. U.S. History Content Area Structured to follow New
York State Social Studies and Learning Standard number 5.
5. Outline Describing Content Will be used during
each class period of Government 12
6. Software to be used, internet materials, contacts, etc.
Airliner Smart Board. Senteo clickers, and powerpoint.
7. Level of Student Involvement Students will be
given daily assignments to complete during the entire course of
study.
8. Evaluation process (include students when possible)
A student from each section will be tasked to create an
evaluation of the content and have peer students complete on a
bi-monthly basis to track progress and change questioning techniques
as needed. A final evaluation will be conducted and given to school
administration.
9. Timeline: how you envision the project being carried out
between start up and conclusion Begin January 2009 and
completing in June 2009
Reflection
I
applied for the Teaching American History Project and used two
different technologies to enhance student understandings. The first
method used was Senteo clickers to check student understanding of
the information presented. The second technology used was
Wikispaces to have student respond to different questions and/or
themes.
The Senteo clickers were difficult to use from a teacher’s
perspective. First when adding students to the Senteo Manager, this
process was time consuming and needed practice to activate the
clickers. Once the students were added to the class roster, my
focus shifted to creating power point slides.
Using Senteo was difficult to use as some questions used from
ExamGen or School Island would not copy automatically and slides
would have to be typed individually. Other clicker technology
allows teachers to download questions and the slides would be
automatically created. Creating slides became very time consuming
due to the fact each slides had to be typed, Senteo question added,
and then select the appropriate question type.
Once the power point was created the information was presented to
the class and the students could answer content specific questions.
The power point slide would generate a graph of all student
responses and show the correct response. The class would then
detail the answer to ensure the class understood the information
present and move to the next question. Several problems faced
during instruction was the program would not response several times
if more than twenty slides were in the presentation. The
instruction/review would have to stop, end the program and re-start
the presentation- always causing a delay in class time.
Overall the students enjoyed using the clickers and using Wikispace
the students could elaborate on how they enjoyed the clicker
technology. Attached are student responses to several topics
ranging from upfront questions to use of the Senteo clickers.
I
do believe that both technologies will enhance student understanding
of selected topics.

clickers
These
clickers really help me for reveiw on a test. Alot of the time when
taking a test I think hey I did this question with the clickers and
alot of the time I get the question right.

Clikers
I love
them! They help you to realize if youre behind the rest of the class
or if theyre having the same problems you are. They also are just
something new, it makes us, as students, more willing to participate
because its just something different and interactive.

Clickers
I love
the idea of the clickers. Its a fun way to do a quiz and keeps us
focused and alert. I really like using them in class.

clickers
i think
it makes learning much easier, because of the
fact that, first off its multiple choice, so it narrows it down for
you. and its not time consuming. a teacher can get through alot more
questions, than if they were just asking them, without
the clickers

I like
the clickers, they are definitely more fun and effective than
listening to the questions over and over again.

Topic 2-
From the November 17, 2008 Edition
Select two of the main articles Election 2008, Environment,
International, Debate and Cartoons and for each one selected:
a. give a 50 word summary
b. state two things you learned from the reading and the importance
c. describe one area you would like to research and why
This will be due on December 3rd.

Election 2008:The
Handoff:From 43-44
a) The
article, handoff: from 43 to 44, is about the transition from out
present "lame duck" george bush and our newly elected president
barack obama. obama is not only taking over handling the war in
afganistan, but now has to figure out a way to do something about
"the worst financial crisis since the great depression". a smooth
transition of office occupancy is critical to maintain what little
control or country has over the situation.
b)1) when FDR was elected president inauguration days was in march
but they moved it to january because of the economic crisis (great
depression) we were in
2) because of the war in afgahnistan and the economic "war" at home,
the transition from bush to obama "will be one of the most important
transitions in the last 50 years"
c) I would like to research the actions that the banking industries
are planing to do to get themselves out of this situation.

Election 2008
A. This
article explained the things that Barack Obama has been through
throughout his life. He made headlines at Harvard by becoming the
first black president of The Harvard Review. Obama is also an
opposer to the war in Iraq saying that its a "war based not on
reason, but on politics." Obama's father was born in Kenya and his
mother in Kansas, and he has had many run-ins with different culture
because of this. He has lived in Hawaii and many other states in our
country, as well as going to Kenya and Indonesia.
B.I learned that Obama has worked as a community organizer and he
tried to get more African Americans to vote. This was important
because it shows that Obama is concerned about the American people
and the environment in which they live.
C. I would like to research about Obama's parents to see the kind of
background that he has had and the things he has been through. I
would also like to know more about his parents background because it
could also tell a lot about him.

Upfront2 cont.
Debate:
Through reading this article i have learned that the majority of
colleges don't see any profit from all of the money their football
teams are responsible for generating. It is important for people to
realize this because it is a common misconception. I have also
learned that college football players have to be responsible for
full or part time jobs, their classes and school work, and dedicate
a lot of their time to practice and games. People should take this
into consideration because if they got paid, they could spend more
time on their homework and achieve better grades.
I would like to research the amount of stress that is put on
students in sports and how getting paid for the work you do already
would affect their grades.
